If you had to pick between a 2008 MINI with sunroof, HD Radio, fancy driving lamps and all season tires for $25,000 and a 2008 Touring Prius with JBL sound system for $26,000 (but the Pruis saved you about $50/month in gas due to the difference in gas milea) .... which would you choose, and why?

Prius (this is my favorite color, it looks like a BatMobile!):
http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/34394-magnetic-gray-w-gray-stickers.html
Advantages: better mileage, more room, dealerships far more "ubiquitous" in case of car problems

MINI:
Advantages: Better handling, more personality, great resale value

I was watching the Italian Job yesterday and the great big monstrous guy with the long hair said, "If I know anything, I know that you don't mess with Mother Nature, Mother-in-Laws, or Mother F***ing Ukranians" <LOL>!!!  I've know two Ukranians in my life, they were both named Igor (one in Germany and one HERE at my new job hahaha), and that KRAZY KATIE girl I worked with at my last job was American-Ukranian Orthodox and, ummm ... are there any Ukranians here ....?  Poke!

(raises hand slowly)

...

...ANYWAY... I'd go with the Prius. In the long run, saving the money on gas will pay for the difference inside of two years, then start racking up savings.

If you don't switch cars every year or so. We tend to keep ours for very long times.

Are you from the Ukraine?  Or of Ukranian descent, living in American ...?  "So I married an axe murderer" is a great Scot-bashing (all in good fun) movie, and "trainspotting" is a little more serious, for us Scottish descendents hehehe ... i figured I should check before continuing with that thread ... FYI, you also save on brake pads because of the regenerative braking, and while it doesn't save you money, the very-low-emissions will make you feel good about yourself. Tongue

Did you test drive a prius, Jamie?  When my coworker was showing me all the features added since our 2001 (rear-view camera, keyless entry and ignition, very responsive GPS/navigation system, just to name those I can remember), I was going crazy with envy.  I almost regretted the fact that our 7-year old car is still working pretty much like new...no excuse to get a newer one. Almost.  I still think the 2001 shape is cuter, and that dark green color..well, I can't quite fathom why they discontinued it.

Anyhow, I obviously like the Prius, but I can't really do more than just give you data. I don't know the MINI well enough to argue against it, if that makes sense...I can only say how happy we are with the Prius.

Hmmm .... I dunno, I kinda of like the looks of this new Touring version, with the tuned suspension and bigger, smexier wheels ...

I'm third generation (or fourth, depending on how you count it) from the Ukranians that settled a big chunk of Canada's prairies. My grandmother spoke Ukranian before she spoke English (and has the heavy accent) as that's what they still speak in that area of Saskatchewan. (I met a guy from the area while in the Navy, who, like my grandmother, speaks Ukranian first, even now. He was younger than me.) My grandmother moved away to raise my mother. My mother speaks a little - they used to talk about me in Ukranian when I was a kid - and I only know 'food words.'

My dad's side is British. As in, my grandfather/grandmother were from Jersey. They apparently came over not long after WW1.

And I still like the Toyota over the MINI.

my grandmother was ukranian.....or i should say she was born there, and lived till she turned 15, and got taken to the concentration camp in germany where she met my croatian grandfather who married her, and brought her to live with him to yugoslavia............way off topic
as for grandmother's descent we can't say that she was ukranina for sure for sure since her last name was martin, which sounds anything but ukranian

......as for the car, i prefer the look of the mini over prius......i just like tiny cars, and would probably go with that one for that reason.......but i would also want to find out which one drives better.......and for some reason i would think that mini would be better on the road, with curves, and corners.............i guess i just like mini better overall, and would be ready to pay extra $50 a month on gas for something i really like

So that I can put that in perspective...don't diesel cars usually get higher mpg?  Around...40-50?  So in a way, that 70 mpg is the same for a diesel as the prius is for a normal sedan....yes?

 Yeah that

The best of both worlds, basically ... the synergy of two good gas mileage makers into one.  And I always liked the idea of converting a diesel into a bio-fuel vehicle eventually, too.  But I can't use the leftover corn oil that MacDonalds uses for their french fries, because every I drove,  my exhaust would give people the munchies  Woohoo!

From what I saw on the news the other night, diesel gas prices are rising higher than regular gas.

And well, I vote for the Prius ... well.. because.. it's so pretty!!  Cloud 9

I drive like a maniac on the road some of the time, and during the winter I've gotten on average 45 mpg, the warmer the weather the better it is. It's nice to fill up for less than $25 and that one (sometimes two) tank(s) get us through the whole week where, before in my old car, we'd have to fill up 3 times a week for almost $40 each time. We've put almost 10k miles on it since middle of last October and we've had 0 problems. Smiley

and the grey is gorgeous!  Grin

the diesel is always higher in the winter, and will go for more tha the gas...............but in the end you use less diesel for more mileage.............or more gas for less mileage..........the cost might be the same in the end.........
but also there's biodiesel which only one gas station sells here in toronto.........and it's expensive, but it's green...........and i hope that one day all the stations will have biodiesel, and the more people produce it, and sell it the less the price.............one day i hope

Were thinking of getting a Prius, and weebling between leasing and owning.  Kind of a random spur of the moment idea, we really sorta need a car that:

1) Doesnt use Prem. Gas >_<
2) Has a hatchback, prz.
3) Doesnt guzzle gas!

And of course you make that list and go ya Prius! <3  We are looking at a few other contenders but pretty much thats my bet of what we get - just gotta figure out the lease/buy options.
