Finally got back to this old concept sketch of an iss'avali male. This fellow is actually a character we'll be introducing around Chapter 6 or so. (Yes, I know his hair has mega-body on the top. It's intentional. ) I was originally going to make a tutorial out of it at the time, but that wasn't happening. I instead used it as a way to experiment with some new techniques in Painter X, though I did go ahead and create a .jpg of the steps I took. Step by step process with notes

Wow Really well-done eyes. And the brush technique is great. Very painty.

The .jpgs are enough for me to be inspired! Fantastic Job Jerelyn. You are definitely honing your skills to absolutely excellent level. (and they were already DARN freaking GOOD! Before! ) He is very...mysterious..Can't wait to read/see about him in the comics!

Interesting picture - Definately has a different "feel" of texture than your usual pictures do. Nicely done.

he is gorgeous! Sweet inspiration you have arrived X3, now lets get more in depth about Iss'avali, question 1: were are their gills located? question 2: are they a male dominated society or a female dominated society,(basically who would be more likely to inherit captain duties a boy or a girl or is it equal opportunity?: question 3: can I create some fan characters of this race or would prefer that I just hold off on that?

question 1: were are their gills located? A little below their armpits, running down 6 inches or so (varies). Pretty much invisible when not in water, though. question 2: are they a male dominated society or a female dominated society,(basically who would be more likely to inherit captain duties a boy or a girl or is it equal opportunity?: They are about as equal opportunity as they come. question 3: can I create some fan characters of this race or would prefer that I just hold off on that? By all means, go for it

Yay thankyou for getting back to me on that Jerelyn, I'm not sure when I will get around to drawing them in water but I'm sure that it will happen, *oh soooo many Ideas to sort through and draw* Equal opportunity Rocks that means I can create a Female Captian and a Male Captain that makes me so happy, also I was wondering if Twins are very common among the Iss'avali or any Avali for that matter, I should I just leave that little anomali alone?
Sorry to keep bugging you with Questions ^^; I'm just an extemely curious person. I'm a Twin myself which is why I'm occasionally inclined to want to Create Twin characters. but if its not something that happens often maybe they could be cousin that are the same age....that might work better actually.

It can happen, but it's redonkulously rare for araye'avali (so I'd leave that one alone), but with the Iss'Avali it's not as rare. Rarer than humans, of course, but not so odd. So you can go there if you feel like it.
